Robinho arrived at City on the final day of the transfer window of summer 2008 for a British record fee of £32.5m from Real Madrid.
He was bought on the first day of the club’s ownership by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed and had a fine first season in the Premier League ending the campaign as the Blues top scorer with fifteen goals.
Ironically, Robinho’s debut, and first goal for the Blues was against rival bidders for his services Chelsea.
His end of season tally included a hat-trick against Stoke and he proved more durable than his critics would have you believe starting 30 of City’s league games and adding ten more in knockout competitions.
2009/10 proved to more difficult, with an ankle injury foprcing him to miss over three months of the campaign before Christmas. Craig Bellamy's great form saw Robinho's chances become more limited and with the World Cup looming he needed regular football. In late January he was loaned to Santos, where he started his career, until August.
Robinho began his professional career in his homeland before moving to Real in 2005 where he clocked up more than 100 starts and averaged a goal every four outings.
He is a fixture in the Brazil side where his scoring ratio is better than one in four. He won his first cap back in 2003and his trophy cabinet contains two La Liga titles, a Confederations Cup and a Copa America. He was voted World Young Player of the Year in 2004-05.
