Carolyn Drake is an American-born photographer who recently relocated from Istanbul, Turkey to a small town in Mississippi, USA. She studied Media/Culture and American History at Brown University, receiving her BA in 1994, and then moved to New York, where she worked in “interactive multimedia” for many years.

Turning thirty soon after the World Trade Centers fell, she decided it was time to step outside of her multimedia bubble in search of more tangible connections, and to make an effort better understand what was happening around and beyond herself. She began to study photography, first as a part-time student at ICP, then as a graduate student at Ohio University.

Carolyn now splits her time between self-driven documentary projects and the magazine editorial work from which she makes a living. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fulbright fellowship, and the Lange Taylor Documentary Prize, among other awards, and is currently putting together her first book, Two Rivers.
