CHARLES DICKENS Charles Dickens was the most popular English writer of the Victorian era. Many of his novels were popular in magazines at the time. His work had very good comments from writers such as Virginia Woolf and Henry James. They were important writers of the time. (par.1) Dickens loved the style of 18th century romance and he also loved writing about London. His writing style is poetic (emotional like poetry) with a strong comic side. He makes fun of rich people. Many of his character names are related to their characters and actions. His literary style is also a mix of fantasy and real life. (par.2) Dickens is most famous for his writings about the problems of working people. He is also known for his difficult stories and his sense of humour (saying funny things). He wrote normal and believable characters. His novels were about social status, that’s, the position people have among other people. He was a critic of Victorian period and he mostly wrote about poor people, who were living badly in the Victorian period. (par.3) David Copperfield is one of the most famous novels of Charles Dickens. Many things in the novel are from Dickens’ life and that’s why the story is called autobiographical. The story is about the life of David Copperfield from his childhood to adulthood, the period of being a grown-up. (par.4)
