    19 th may of 1919 is the date when atatürk reached to samsun.he had sailed on 16 may 1919 from istanbul to samsun with the steamboat, named bandırma, with the aim of freedom and he started the turkish war of independence on 19 may 1919.end of the 3 years lasted war, after all the foreign military forces had deported,the day of his first appearence in samsun became a celebration day namely " youth and sports day" with his own commend.it had been celebrating with the same name from 20 june 1938 to 19 may 1981 after that time the name was changed to "atatürk commemoration and youth and sports day" by added atatürk commemoration.
