i'm a guy that worked over my social awkwardness and low self-esteem and became very popular with the ladies when i did so. i used to think that just because i didn't like to go to bars and clubs and parties (i don't drink) and do lots of 'normal person' stuff (big gamer/programmer) that it meant i was a social outcast. i eventually learned that it's just who i am, and started liking myself, mostly by developing hobbies and skills that i enjoy and want to be a part of me. when i talked to someone new, i would speak about these hobbies with genuine passion instead of a veiled shame, and people pick up on that passion - they realize that if i enjoy something, it must be worth enjoying. that's really the opener to self-confidence imo, even though it's rooted in circular logic. i had a bunch of flings and enjoyed single life, but now i have a steady girlfriend who thinks the world of me, and my confidence is sky-high.
