TGFb1 was found to modulate the net balance of the matrix metalloproteinases/tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases systems in HT1080 cells in a manner inhibitory to their invasive and migrotary abilities by augmenting TIMP-1 through extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1/2 pathway and Sp-1 transcription factor activity.
