[edit]description
it is the first smartphone with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, the first windows mobile phone with a multi-touch capacitive screen and htc sense, and the second smartphone with a snapdragon arm cpu (the first being the toshiba tg01).[6][7] htc also officially sells an optional stylus pen for the hd2 to aid navigation through the interface.[8] some windows mobile applications were designed to be used with a stylus, rather than finger-touch, and still need a stylus pen to be used effectively.[1] windows phone 7 was thought to have been unofficially ported to the hd2, but it was later demonstrated as easy to fake with the use of a remote terminal connection. [9]
certain t-mobile locations are running a promotion that states that iphone users who turn in their handsets can get anywhere from $100 to $350 dollars off the hd2.[10]
[edit]sales
when launched in the uk, vodafone quickly sold all of its stock and developed a backlog of orders, and o2 delayed putting the hd2 on its website so that it could fulfil all orders.[11] similarly, in the us, the htc hd2 sold out in most t-mobile stores within 4 hours and t-mobile struggled to keep it in stock for several weeks.[12][13] the hd2 retails for $200 from t-mobile with a contract, and is available through distributors for $50.[14]
[edit]issues
the htc hd2 has suffered from a number of bugs and issues:[15][16]
some of the earlier released hd2 handsets have a camera defect that causes a magenta color cast that has been described as a "pink aura" to appear on photographs.[17][18] htc has released a software fix for the issue, which the user can install onto the handset using a microsoft windows computer connected via a usb cable.[19]
a bug with the phone's sms sending was reported by some users, where smses sent from within the htc sense interface software would stay in the outbox and not be delivered to the receiver.[20] htc released a software patch for the issue available on their website.[16][21].
microsoft announced the htc hd2 will not be upgradeable to windows phone 7 series.[22][23] however, there are videos on websites such as youtube, where demos show the htc hd2 running windows phone 7. the device complies with all hardware requirements, with the exception of the required search button, so an unofficial version of windows phone 7 for the hd2 could be a reality. development of an android rom for the device took a more urgent turn after the microsoft news. android being an open os, has proved a challenge to try and make a stable build for the device.[24]
there are some reports in the uk version of the device, where the digitizer fails resulting in instability, and sometimes requiring the replacement of the entire lcd screen.[25]
